Collection: Jute Rugs

Our jute rugs are handwoven flatweaves and braided rugs made from jute, a plant fibre grown and spun in India. They bring an earthy, natural texture to calm, simple rooms.

How jute feels

Jute is a coarse, strong fibre with a natural golden-brown colour and a slight sheen. It feels firm and textured rather than soft, so it is at its best where you walk rather than where you sit on the floor.

Where jute works

Living rooms, dining rooms, entryways and hallways, or as a base layer under a smaller wool rug. A flat jute weave lets dining chairs slide easily. Keep jute in dry indoor spaces; it is not suited to bathrooms, damp floors or outdoor use.

Care

• Vacuum regularly with the beater bar turned off.
• Jute absorbs water and can mark or shrink if it gets soaked. Blot spills straight away, use as little water as possible and let the area dry quickly.
• Do not steam clean, shampoo or machine wash.
• Some fibre shedding is normal, especially in the first weeks.
• A rug pad stops slipping and protects the floor underneath.

Sizes

Many jute designs can be woven to a custom size. Send us your measurements and we confirm every detail with you before weaving begins.

Questions

Is jute soft underfoot?

Jute is textured and firm rather than soft. If you want more softness with a similar look, see our wool and jute rugs.

Will jute fade in sunlight?

Like most natural fibres, jute can lighten slowly in strong direct sun. Rotating the rug now and then keeps the colour even.

Can I order a jute rug in a custom size?

Yes. See custom rugs.
